Workshop Guide
BASIC
Basic Training in General Surgery
The course focuses on introductory skills in surgical practice, discussing asepsis and antisepsis principles, operating room organization and conduit, principles of electrosurgery, surgical instruments presentation and manipulation, knotting and suturing skills.
Introduction in laparoscopic surgery
The course focuses on principles of the laparoscopic approach, the equipment and instruments used, principles of instrument handling, concepts of ergonomics, tissue coordination and manipulation exercises, prehension and dissection exercises, optical camera manipulation exercises.
INTERMEDIATE
Laparoscopic suturing
Hands-on Workshop
Module 1
This course focuses on teaching basics of knot tying (intracorporeal and extracorporeal technique) and suturing (interrupted and continuous sutures).
Laparoscopic suturing
Hands-on Workshop
Module 2
The course focuses on learning the practical applications of suturing, simulating intraoperative conditions on ex-vivo biological material. The course will present the principles of laparoscopic gastric ulcer suturing, gastrojejunal anastomosis and will allow participants to practice these techniques on biological materials.
Laparoscopic suturing
Hands-on Workshop
Module 3
The course focuses on teaching the use of different types of staplers, the correct choice for a stapler depending on the tissue and performing mechanical anastomoses. The course also focuses on learning the principles and practicing how to perform more advanced digestive anastomoses, like gastrojejunal and hepaticocojejunal anastomoses, on ex-vivo biological materials.
Manual intestinal anastomosis
This course focuses on teaching a correct step by step technique to manual open end-to end, end-to-side and side-to side intestinal anastomosis on biologic ex-vivo material.
Laparoscopic cholecystectomy
Hands-on workshop
The subject of the course includes notions of surgical anatomy of the extrahepatic bile ducts, operative technique and tactics in chronic and acute cholecystitis, problems and solutions in cholecystectomy in difficult conditions, principles of management in iatrogenic lesions of the bile duct.
ADVANCED
Laparoscopic liver surgery
The workshop focuses on advanced laparoscopic surgical skills, teaching participants the principles of performing minor and major minimally invasive liver resections and hands-on training on live experimental animals.
Laparoscopic rectal resection
The workshop focuses on advanced laparoscopic surgical skills, teaching participants the principles of performing minimally anterior rectal resection, abdominoperineal rectal resection and hands-on training on live experimental animals.
Practical principles of urological surgery
The workshop focuses on teaching useful techniques in urological surgery that might be needed in different situations encountered by a general surgeon – like iatrogenic lesion of the ureter, urinary bladder resections.
Practical principles of gynecological surgery
The workshop focuses on teaching useful techniques in gynecological surgery that might be needed in different situations encountered by a general surgeon – surgical principles in hysterectomy, the management of the pregnant patient with surgical pathologies.
Practical principles of vascular surgery
The workshop focuses on teaching useful techniques in vascular surgery that might be needed in different situations encountered by a general surgeon, especially vascular anastomosis techniques for arteries and veins.
Hiatal hernia repair - advanced hands-on course
The course includes the presentation of the theoretical principles of esophageal hiatus dissection and gastric fundus mobilization, cruroplasty, Toupet fundoplication and Nissen fundoplication, as well as hands-on exercises on live experimental animals (swine) to practice these techniques.
Abdominal wall hernia repair
The course focuses on teaching the principles of laparoscopic abdominal wall hernia repair, with a focus on inguinal hernia repair (through TAPP and TEP techniques) and to assure hands-on training on live experimental animals for the participants.
